About this card

This is one of the eighteen team cards in the set. Neither 1962 expansion club, the New York Mets or the Houston Colt .45s, has one.

The story on this card

The 1962 team card looks back at a 1961 the Phillies would rather forget: 47-107, last in the National League, 46 games behind the pennant-winning Reds in Gene Mauch's second season. From July 29 to August 20 they lost 23 in a row, the most in the majors since 1900; John Buzhardt won the game before it started and the game that ended it. Art Mahaffey (11-19, 158 strikeouts) was the only man to reach double-digit wins, Don Demeter hit a team-high 20 homers after arriving in a May trade, and Hall of Famer Robin Roberts went 1-10 across 18 starts in his final Phillies season. Only 590,039 came through Connie Mack Stadium. Card #294 belongs to Topps' fourth series.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
