About Bill Kennedy
William Aulton "Lefty" Kennedy was a left-handed pitcher born March 14, 1921, in Carnesville, Georgia. Originally signed by the New York Yankees before the 1939 season, he built his legend in the minors: in 1946 with the Class-D Rocky Mount Rocks he went 28-3 with a 1.03 ERA and struck out an astonishing 456 batters in 280 innings — one of the highest single-season strikeout totals in professional baseball history — then went 15-2 for Scranton in 1947. Kennedy reached the majors on April 26, 1948, with the Cleveland Indians, but was traded to the St. Louis Browns within weeks, narrowly missing Cleveland's 1948 World Series title. Over parts of eight seasons (1948-1957) he also pitched for the Chicago White Sox, Boston Red Sox (his 1953 Topps club), and Cincinnati Redlegs, compiling a 15-28 record, a 4.73 ERA, 256 strikeouts, and 11 saves. He never made an All-Star team, and after baseball tended bar in Seattle, where he died of lung cancer in 1983 at age 62. His #94 card is a double-print in the 1953 set.

Double Print
Marked DP. Roughly 50% more of these cards were printed than their neighbors (the hobby calls it 'double-printed'), so they are the most plentiful cards in the set. TCDB flags 103 of them, concentrated in the low series. Five cards normally in the low run - #94, #107, #131, #145 and #156 - were also printed on the more-plentiful #166-220 sheet. A print-quantity designation, not an error or a separate card.
