About Charles Seitz
Charles "Charlie" Seitz, born in 1884, was a deadball-era outfielder who spent his career in the minor leagues and never reached the majors. He made his name with the Norfolk Tars of the Class C Virginia League, where he was a genuine offensive standout, batting a robust .326. That production earned him a step up in competition: in 1910 he was one of the fresh bats brought in by the Atlanta Crackers of the higher-classification Southern Association. His most documented moment came that spring, when the 1910 Crackers, stung by a Birmingham newspaper report of clubhouse dissension, published a signed open letter to Atlanta fans on May 1, 1910, declaring "there is not one word of truth in this malicious slander" and pledging to play their best ball; Seitz's signature was among them. He is best known today for card #432 in the 1909-1911 T206 White Border set, part of the "Southern Leaguer" subgroup issued in the harder-to-find Piedmont 350 series—Southern League subjects were printed only in 1909-1910, making them among the scarcer and more sought-after cards in the set. No documented nickname beyond the everyday "Charlie" survives, and, as a career minor leaguer, he has no major-league statistical record.
