CGC Card Grading
Owned by Certified Collectibles Group, CGC is relatively new player in world of card grading and has recently grown rapidly, especially for trading card games such as Pokémon.
Key benefits to grading with CGC include lower prices, faster turnaround-times, fewer upcharges and more-reliable customer support.
That said, certain CGC graded cards still lack the volume and magnitude of sales when compared to their PSA counterparts. We expect this gap to close over time, and always recommend that collectors should buy the card, not the grade.
PSA Card & Memorabilia Authentication & Grading
The most widely recognized name in card grading and authentication, PSA remains the default choice for high-value collectibles being prepared for sale. Owned by Collectors, PSA also runs the hobby's leading Set Registry, where collectors compete to build the highest-graded sets — a major draw for serious set builders.
The trade-offs are real. PSA submissions routinely run past their stated turnaround windows, and when something goes wrong — a quality-control miss or a card damaged in their care — resolving it can drag on for months.
The Shutdown
On June 2, 2026, PSA paused its four most affordable Value tiers (Value Bulk through Value Max) to fight a backlog approaching 10 million cards — its second such shutdown since 2021.
The cheapest route to a PSA grade is now Regular service at $79.99 per card — well over $100 all-in once shipping and insurance are added, and more than triple the old bulk rate. This prices out budget and bulk submitters while the millions of cards already in the queue keep waiting.
The bigger story, in our view, is structural. PSA's parent, Collectors, acquired rivals SGC (2024) and Beckett (2025), giving it control of roughly 80% of grading volume and prompting a congressional request for an FTC investigation along with a private antitrust lawsuit. Even a $200 million expansion hasn't kept capacity ahead of demand — leaving a near-monopoly that still can't reliably return a card on time.
We continue to facilitate PSA submissions at the Regular tier and above for customers who want them. But given the ongoing delays, service interruptions, and consolidation of the market, we can no longer recommend PSA.
