About Frank Delehanty
Frank Delahanty was the fourth of five Cleveland-born brothers to reach the majors — the largest set of siblings ever to do so — following his Hall of Fame brother Ed (inducted 1945), Jim, Joe, and Tom onto the diamond. Born December 29, 1882, he broke into pro ball in 1902 with Birmingham and Atlanta of the Southern Association, then debuted with the New York Highlanders on August 23, 1905. An outfielder praised as one of the finest "sun fielders" of his day, he was the Highlanders' semi-regular left fielder in 1906 (.238, 41 RBIs) before a stormy 1907 trade to the Cleveland Naps ended in suspension. He resurfaced in the outlaw Federal League with the Pittsburgh Rebels and Buffalo Buffeds in 1914-1915, closing a six-season, 287-game major-league career at .226 with 223 hits and 50 stolen bases. Nicknamed "Pudgie," he retired in 1918, earned a law degree, and later served as a Cleveland streets supervisor before his death on July 22, 1966. On this T206 card he is shown with the minor-league Louisville Colonels of the American Association; he is a common, non-Hall-of-Fame subject in the set.
