About Bob Pettit
Robert "Bob" Pettit was a consensus All-American at LSU before the Milwaukee Hawks selected him second overall in the 1954 NBA Draft. The 6-foot-9 forward-center spent his entire 11-year career (1954–65) with the Hawks franchise, which relocated to St. Louis in 1955. Pettit was named 1955 Rookie of the Year and, in 1956, became the first winner of the NBA Most Valuable Player Award, capturing it again in 1959. He made all 11 All-Star Games of his career, won a record four All-Star Game MVPs, claimed two scoring titles, and led the Hawks to the 1958 NBA championship over the Celtics. Averaging 26.4 points and 16.2 rebounds per game, he became the first NBA player to score 20,000 career points. Pettit entered the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1971. This 1961-62 Fleer card depicts a veteran superstar and the league's first MVP.
