1986-87 Fleer #49 Jay Humphries

About Jay Humphries
Born John Jay Humphries in Los Angeles, this 6'3" guard starred at the University of Colorado, where he led the nation in steals as a sophomore (4.1 per game in 1982-83) and graduated as the Buffaloes' all-time leader in assists and steals, honors that later earned him a spot in the CU Athletic Hall of Fame (2017). The Phoenix Suns took him 13th overall in the 1984 NBA Draft, and he played 11 seasons (1984-1995) as a point/shooting guard for the Suns, Milwaukee Bucks, Utah Jazz, and Boston Celtics. A steady playmaker, he set the Suns' single-season franchise assist record with 632 in 1986-87 and averaged 11.1 points and 5.5 assists per game for his career. He never made an All-Star team, but reached the 1994 Western Conference Finals with Utah. This is his rookie card; the nameplate reads "Jay Humphries," short for his birth name John Jay Humphries.
