About Bock Hooker

Bock Hooker — full name William Edward Hooker (August 28, 1880 – July 2, 1929), and listed in the record books as "Buck" Hooker — was a right-handed pitcher born and raised in Richmond, Virginia. He reached the majors with the Cincinnati Reds, debuting September 5, 1902 and making his final appearance April 29, 1903; across two games (one start) he went 0–1 with a 3.48 ERA in roughly 10 innings, without recording a strikeout. Hooker was essentially a career minor leaguer, remaining active through 1915 and posting a 22–14 mark in his pitching seasons across five clubs, including the Richmond, Newport News, Providence, Vicksburg, Danville, and Lynchburg franchises, with a few stints as player-manager. His T206 card pictures him with the Lynchburg Shoemakers of the Virginia State League and belongs to the set's scarce Southern Leaguer/minor-league subgroup; an example resides in the Library of Congress's Benjamin K. Edwards Collection, making Hooker a prized regional subject among T206 collectors.
