About Faye Throneberry
Maynard Faye Throneberry (June 22, 1931 - April 26, 1999) was a left-handed-hitting, right-throwing outfielder from Fisherville, Tennessee. A Detroit contract was voided by Commissioner Happy Chandler because he had not yet finished high school, so he signed with Boston Red Sox scout George Digby in June 1950, then hit .304 with 13 home runs for Scranton in 1951. He debuted with the Red Sox on April 15, 1952, and over eight seasons (1952-1961) played for Boston, the Washington Senators, and the Los Angeles Angels. As a rookie he clubbed two grand slams and made two sparkling catches before President Harry Truman on Opening Day; his best year came in 1959, when he hit a career-high 10 home runs. Army service in 1952-54, including time in Korea, and a shoulder injury blunted his career; he finished at .236 with 29 home runs and 137 RBI in 521 games. Faye was the older brother of "Marvelous Marv" Throneberry, and after baseball he became a champion field-trial bird-dog trainer, handling a pointer to a 1973 national title.

Double Print
Marked DP. Roughly 50% more of these cards were printed than their neighbors (the hobby calls it 'double-printed'), so they are the most plentiful cards in the set. TCDB flags 103 of them, concentrated in the low series. Five cards normally in the low run - #94, #107, #131, #145 and #156 - were also printed on the more-plentiful #166-220 sheet. A print-quantity designation, not an error or a separate card.
