The story on this card
Card 122 in the 1961 Topps set, a second-series team card, pictures the Chicago Cubs and their dismal 1960 at Wrigley Field. Charlie Grimm opened his third Cubs term, then after 17 games swapped jobs with WGN broadcaster Lou Boudreau, the Hall of Fame shortstop, who went 54-83 over the final 137 contests. Chicago finished 60-94, seventh in the eight-team National League, 35 games behind the world champion Pirates, one game clear of last-place Philadelphia. The roster was richer than the record: Ernie Banks won the NL home run title with 41, Richie Ashburn hit .291 in center, and youngsters Ron Santo and Billy Williams were breaking in. By the time this card reached packs, Phil Wrigley had scrapped the manager's job for his College of Coaches.
