1961 Topps #554 Pittsburgh Pirates Team
Hall of Famers on the 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates roster: Roberto Clemente and Bill Mazeroski.

The story on this card
This Pittsburgh Pirates team card looks back on 1960, when the club went 95-59 under manager Danny Murtaugh and finished seven games clear of Milwaukee for its first National League pennant in 33 seasons. Shortstop Dick Groat took NL Most Valuable Player honors and Vern Law the Cy Young Award, while future Hall of Famers Roberto Clemente and Bill Mazeroski anchored the everyday lineup at Forbes Field. Pittsburgh then beat the heavily favored New York Yankees four games to three, Mazeroski ending Game 7 at home with a ninth-inning home run. Number 554 is a high number from the seventh and final series of the 587-card 1961 set, a team-card subset issue.
