1963 Topps #274 4th Series Checklist: 265-352

About this card
The seven checklist cards (#79, 102, 191, 274, 362, 431, 509) print their own seven blocks - 1-88, 89-176, 177-264, 265-352, 353-429, 430-506 and 507-576 - which do not match the seven print series the cards were actually issued in. Three of them (#102, #431, #509) exist in two catalogued print states.
The story on this card
Card 274 is the fourth-series checklist for the 1963 Topps set, listing every card number from 265 through 352 so collectors could track which cards from that print series they still needed. The checklist itself sits in print series 3 of the seven print series that made up the 576-card release. Like the rest of the 1963 design, Topps ran a colorful name-and-team banner across the bottom of the cards in that release, giving the set its bright, photo-forward look. Checklist cards were printed purely as a collecting aid, and most surviving copies show handling from their original use as a want list, since collectors pulled them out of the wax pack stack to check off names as they opened packs.
