About this card

The seven checklist cards (#79, 102, 191, 274, 362, 431, 509) print their own seven blocks - 1-88, 89-176, 177-264, 265-352, 353-429, 430-506 and 507-576 - which do not match the seven print series the cards were actually issued in. Three of them (#102, #431, #509) exist in two catalogued print states.

The story on this card

Card 509 in the 1963 Topps set is a checklist card listing the numbers in the seventh and final series, 507 through 576. That closing series is one of the hardest in the set to complete, since Topps printed fewer late-run sheets than early series, and it carries some of the run's biggest names, including Roberto Clemente, Pete Rose, and Willie Stargell. Card 509 falls in print series six, making it a semi-high number, so it is easier to find than the stars it lists. Collectors recognize two printings of this checklist: one with the copyright line centered on the lower back, one with it shifted to the lower right. Either printing satisfies the slot in a standard set build.

Print variations

Two states of #509 are tracked individually: 509a - Copyright centered and 509b - Copyright to right. The difference is on the back of the card (copyright position).

States catalogued by the PSA master set registry and the Trading Card Database; each is tracked here individually.
