The story on this card
This team card reports the 1962 Tigers, who went 85-76 under manager Bob Scheffing and finished fourth in the American League, ten and a half games behind the pennant-winning Yankees, playing their home games at Tiger Stadium in front of over 1.2 million fans. Norm Cash powered 39 homers and Rocky Colavito drove in 112 runs, while Al Kaline hit .304 and won a Gold Glove despite missing time to injury. The pitching staff was anchored by Jim Bunning, who won 19 games and struck out 184 batters, backed by Hank Aguirre and Don Mossi. Card #552 is the Detroit Tigers team card from Topps' seventh and final series, a high number. Bunning and Kaline both appear elsewhere in the set as Hall of Famers who anchored this roster.
