1963 Topps #13 Philadelphia Phillies

About this card
The twenty team cards, one for every 1963 club, are the only horizontal fronts in the set. Every franchise has one, including the Houston Colt .45's, the Los Angeles Angels and the expansion Washington Senators.
The story on this card
This team card reports the 1962 season, when the Phillies stunned the league. A year removed from a 47-107 disaster, Gene Mauch's club won 81 and lost 80, good for seventh place in the newly expanded National League, a turnaround of more than 30 games that earned Mauch the Associated Press writers' Manager of the Year award. The Phillies played their home games at Connie Mack Stadium and went 46-34 there while dropping their road record. Card 13 is the team card in Topps' 1963 series 1 print run, one of the low-numbered issues that shipped earliest in the year. The card presents the full roster and coaching staff in a group photo above the checklist-style team name banner, the format Topps used across its early-1960s team-card subset.
