About this card

Nineteen of the twenty 1964 franchises have a team card; the Houston Colt .45s are the one club without one.

The story on this card

This team card reports the 1963 Kansas City Athletics, who finished eighth in the American League at 73-89 under manager Ed Lopat, well behind the Yankees. Card number 151 belongs to print series two of the 1964 Topps set and shows a posed team photo beneath the club name. The 1963 roster included Tony La Russa, later a Hall of Fame manager, then a young Kansas City infielder. The Athletics were still playing in Kansas City's Municipal Stadium under owner Charlie Finley, a rebuilding club mixing veterans with prospects the front office hoped would turn the franchise around before the eventual move to Oakland.
