The story on this card
Card 433 is the New York Yankees team card, part of print series five in the 1964 Topps set. It reports the club's 1963 season, when the Yankees, managed by Ralph Houk, won the American League pennant by ten and a half games over the Chicago White Sox and returned to the World Series, where the Los Angeles Dodgers swept them in four games, the first Series sweep in franchise history. The card reports that pennant-winning squad, whose roster included future Hall of Famers Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford, and Mickey Mantle. Berra caught, Ford anchored the pitching staff, and Mantle remained the club's biggest star despite injuries limiting his time in the lineup. Sandy Koufax started twice for the Dodgers and beat the Yankees both times, a series-long reminder of how thoroughly the pitching mismatch decided the outcome.
