The story on this card
Card 293 in the fourth print series is the Philadelphia Phillies team card, its back reporting the club's 1963 finish: 87-75 under manager Gene Mauch, good for fourth place in the National League, twelve games behind the pennant-winning Dodgers. Johnny Callison anchored right field with a team-high 26 home runs, Tony Gonzalez hit .306 in center, and Ray Culp made the All-Star team as a reserve pitcher. The roster also carried a September call-up who broke into the lineup for good the following year, Dick Allen, who went on to win the National League Rookie of the Year award in 1964.
