About this card

The seven checklist cards (#34, 101, 183, 279, 363, 444, 517) divide the set into seven numbered blocks (1-88 through 507-598; four of 88 cards, then 77, 77 and 92) that lag the print series: each later checklist was printed with the series before the one it lists, so the "6th Series" checklist #444 is a series-5 card and the "7th Series" #517 a series-6 card. Five of the seven come in two states.

The story on this card

Card 34 in the 1966 Topps set is the first-series checklist, listing card numbers 1 through 88 so collectors could track which cards from that opening run they still needed. Topps spread seven such checklist cards across the 598-card set - #34, #101, #183, #279, #363, #444 and #517 - each covering a later block of the checklist. As a checklist rather than a player card, #34 carries no team designation or photograph of its own. Like every card in the set, its back is printed on Topps' pinkish 1966 card stock.

Where SGC registers no separate row for a variation state, its slabs of that card are listed under the base state.
