About this card

The seven checklist cards (#34, 101, 183, 279, 363, 444, 517) divide the set into seven numbered blocks (1-88 through 507-598; four of 88 cards, then 77, 77 and 92) that lag the print series: each later checklist was printed with the series before the one it lists, so the "6th Series" checklist #444 is a series-5 card and the "7th Series" #517 a series-6 card. Five of the seven come in two states.

The story on this card

Card 279 in the 1966 Topps set is the fourth series checklist, listing cards 265 through 352 so a collector working through that block of packs could mark off what was still needed. It carries no player photograph, just the numbered roster of names, the fourth of seven checklist cards Topps issued across the set's print run. Collectors separate two printings of this card by the color of a cap on the front: one prints it black, the other red. Card 279 belongs to print series three of the 1966 Topps set.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Data as of 2026-09-04. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation. Where SGC registers no separate row for a variation state, its slabs of that card are listed under the base state.
