The story on this card
Harrison appears on this 1966 Topps Rookie Stars card, an issue from the set's third series, representing the Houston Astros and sharing the card with fellow Astros rookie Sonny Jackson. It is a recognized rookie card for Harrison. That season he turned in his best all-around year, setting career highs across the board: a .256 average, 111 hits, 52 runs and 52 RBI in 119 games. A sure-handed first baseman who broke in with the Houston Astros in 1965, Chuck Harrison posted his best season in 1966 before finishing his career with the Kansas City Royals in 1969 and 1971.
The 1966 Topps set puts Jackson at #244, a Houston Rookie Stars card from the third print series, and one he shares with Chuck Harrison. The season behind it was his best: 150 games, every one of them at shortstop, 596 at-bats, a .292 average, 80 runs scored and 25 driven in. His three home runs that summer stood as a career high for a season, the mark of a contact hitter who beat out infield hits and then ran. Sonny Jackson was a speed-first shortstop for Houston and Atlanta whose 1966 rookie season brought a .292 average, a league-leading 160 singles and 49 stolen bases, tying a major league rookie record that had stood since 1910.
