1966 Topps #172 New York Mets
Hall of Famers on the 1965 New York Mets roster: Yogi Berra, Warren Spahn and Casey Stengel.

About this card
Nineteen team cards cover twenty clubs - Houston has none. Three of them, #303 Indians, #326 Braves and #404 Pirates, were printed with and without a dot between the standings line and the league name in the band at the foot of the front, and both states are tracked here.
The story on this card
This team card reports the 1965 Mets, who finished tenth and last in the National League at 50-112. Hall of Fame manager Casey Stengel broke his hip that July while marking his 75th birthday and retired at the end of August; longtime coach Wes Westrum took over for the stretch run. The roster carried two more Hall of Famers in their final Mets playing seasons: Yogi Berra, signed as a free agent that spring before moving to the coaching lines, and Warren Spahn, picked up to anchor the rotation but released in July after a rough stretch on the mound. Card #172 in the second print series, it captures a last-place club still built around recognizable star power while it searched for a winning season.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Data as of 2026-09-04. Half grades fold down for both graders (8.5→8); PSA qualified slabs (OC, ST, PD, MC and the like) are not counted. Where SGC registers no separate row for a variation state, its slabs of that card are listed under the base state.
