1967 Topps #278 4th Series Checklist: 284-370
The front pictures Jim Kaat.

About this card
The seven checklist cards (#62, 103, 191, 278, 361, 454, 531) introduced floating-head star photos - Frank Robinson, Mickey Mantle, Willie Mays, Jim Kaat, Roberto Clemente, Juan Marichal and Brooks Robinson in card order. From 1967 each checklist's range matches one distribution series exactly: #62 lists its own series (1-109), and the other six each list the series after the one they were issued in. Four of the seven (#62, #103, #191, #454) carry catalogued variations.
The story on this card
Card #278 is the fourth series checklist, listing the numbers 284 through 370 on its back, and its own print run falls in the third series of the 1967 Topps set. Rather than a numbered player slot, the front carries a photo of Jim Kaat, fresh off leading the American League with 25 wins and 19 complete games for the Minnesota Twins in 1966, a season that placed him fifth in AL MVP voting and earned him The Sporting News AL Pitcher of the Year honor. The card is a checklist, meant to be checked off card by card as a set came together. Kaat shares the card with no other player.
