About this card

Nineteen of the twenty 1967 franchises have a team card; Houston has none for the fourth straight year - its last was the 1963 Colt .45's card. The Kansas City Athletics card is the franchise's last before the move to Oakland.

The story on this card

This 1967 Topps team card reports the Indians' 1966 season, when the club finished fifth in the American League at 81-81, seventeen games behind the pennant-winning Baltimore Orioles. Birdie Tebbetts managed the club into mid-August before George Strickland took over as interim skipper for the stretch run. The card is number 544 in Topps' seventh and final print series for 1967, a high number, and pictures the Indians and their coaching staff in posed rows above the team nickname. Cleveland went into 1967 under new field boss Joe Adcock, the longtime slugger who retired as a player after 1966 to take the job, though the card itself commemorates the team as constituted for the prior campaign.
