The story on this card
This 1967 Topps team card catches the Kansas City Athletics in their final season before the franchise moved to Oakland for 1968, and its back reports the prior year's mark: a 74-86 finish under manager Alvin Dark, seventh in the American League and 23 games behind the World Champion Baltimore Orioles, with home games at Municipal Stadium. Catfish Hunter, later inducted into the Hall of Fame as a right-hander, anchored a pitching staff backed by closer Jack Aker, who logged 32 saves. Shortstop Bert Campaneris and third baseman Ed Charles led the everyday lineup. Card #262, part of the set's third print series, pictures the full Athletics squad rather than a single player, the standard format for team-issue cards of the era.
