About this card

Nineteen of the twenty 1967 franchises have a team card; Houston has none for the fourth straight year - its last was the 1963 Colt .45's card. The Kansas City Athletics card is the franchise's last before the move to Oakland.

The story on this card

Card 131, in Topps' second 1967 print series, is the Yankees team card, and it reports a 1966 season the club would rather forget: a 70-89 finish, 26.5 games behind the pennant-winning Orioles, and last place in the American League for the first time since 1912. Johnny Keane was fired as manager in early May; Ralph Houk left the front office to run the club from the dugout the rest of the way. The 1966 roster still included Mickey Mantle, who played 108 games and hit .288 with 23 home runs and 56 RBIs, and Whitey Ford, who went 2-5 with a 2.47 ERA in 22 appearances.
