The story on this card
Card 173 in 1967 Topps, part of the set's second print series, is the St. Louis Cardinals team card, reporting the club's 1966 season. The Cardinals finished sixth in the National League at 83-79, twelve games behind the pennant-winning Los Angeles Dodgers. St. Louis played its final game at old Sportsman's Park on May 8, then opened the new Busch Memorial Stadium four days later, and hosted that July's All-Star Game there. The 1966 roster included future Hall of Famers Lou Brock, Bob Gibson, Steve Carlton, and manager Red Schoendienst, plus Orlando Cepeda, acquired that May in a trade that sent Ray Sadecki to San Francisco. Gibson and Curt Flood both won Gold Gloves in 1966, and catcher Tim McCarver led the league in triples, an unusual feat for a backstop.
