About this card
The seven checklist cards (#57, 107, 214, 314, 412, 504, 582) each list one series, and every checklist after the first was printed inside the series before the one it lists - #107 "2nd Series Check List" is a series-1 card. Six of the seven carry an inset photo of a star player, and two of them (#107 and #582) exist in two printing states.
The story on this card
Card 412 is the fifth of seven series checklists in the 1969 Topps set, covering the fifth series' 87 cards from card 426, Curt Flood, through card 512, Cleon Jones. It shipped in the fourth print series, ahead of the numbers it lists, in a 664-card set that was the largest Topps had produced up to that point; its front opens the list with a banner for the ten Sporting News All-Stars, #426-435. Like every other checklist that year except #214, it carries a small star-player photo at the top - here Mickey Mantle - as a collecting hook rather than a biography; picturing a star does not make a checklist a Hall of Fame card, and it carries no player-specific rookie or star claim of its own.
