About Emil Batch
Emil Batch was a right-handed third baseman and outfielder born January 21, 1880, in Brooklyn, New York. He climbed through the minor leagues — including Holyoke of the Connecticut State League — before debuting with his hometown Brooklyn Superbas on September 13, 1904, at age 24. Batch spent his entire four-year major-league career (1904–1907) with Brooklyn, manning third base early on and shifting to the outfield later. His best season came in 1905, when he hit .252 with 11 triples and 5 home runs, the latter among the National League leaders. Over 348 big-league games he batted .251 with 315 hits, 7 home runs, and 98 RBIs before his major-league days ended after the 1907 campaign. He then returned to the minors, playing for clubs such as the Rochester Bronchos of the Eastern League — the team shown on his T206 card, which places him among the set's Eastern League minor-league subjects rather than its star major-leaguers. Known by the era-typical nicknames "Heinie" and "Ace," Batch died in Brooklyn on August 23, 1926, at age 46.
