About Peaches Graham
George Frederick "Peaches" Graham was a dead-ball-era utility man best remembered as a backup catcher. Born March 23, 1877, in Aledo, Illinois, he reached the majors on September 14, 1902, debuting at second base for the Cleveland Bronchos. He resurfaced in 1903 with the Chicago Cubs but appeared in only a single game as a pitcher, a loss, then spent five years out of the big leagues. Graham returned for good in 1908 as a versatile bench player with the Boston Doves (the Boston National League club shown on his T206 card), and though he lined up at second, third, short, and the outfield, he was primarily a catcher. He remained with Boston through 1911, was dealt to the Cubs mid-1911, and finished with the Philadelphia Phillies in 1912 at age 35. Over seven seasons spanning eleven years he batted .265 in 999 at-bats with 1 home run and 85 RBIs. His son, Jack Graham, later played in the majors from 1946 to 1949. Graham died July 25, 1939, in Long Beach, California. He is one of the T206 set's many common, non-star journeyman subjects.
