About Grady Hatton
Grady Edgebert Hatton Jr. (1922-2013) was a Beaumont, Texas, native who starred at the University of Texas and served in the Army Air Forces during World War II before signing with the Cincinnati Reds for a then-record NL rookie bonus in 1946. Reaching the majors without a day in the minors, the third baseman hit .271 with 14 home runs as a rookie and became Cincinnati's regular at the hot corner for six seasons. In 1952 he shifted to second base and earned his lone All-Star selection, though he did not appear in the game. Over 12 seasons (1946-1960) with the Reds, White Sox, Red Sox, Cardinals, Orioles and Cubs, Hatton batted .254 with 1,068 hits, 91 home runs and 533 RBI across 1,312 games. Nicknamed "Grade-A" for his integrity - he once honored a handshake deal with Reds GM Warren Giles over a signed contract with another club - he later managed the Houston Astros (1966-1968) and scouted for decades, retiring after 46 years in the game.

Double Print
Marked DP. Roughly 50% more of these cards were printed than their neighbors (the hobby calls it 'double-printed'), so they are the most plentiful cards in the set. TCDB flags 103 of them, concentrated in the low series. Five cards normally in the low run - #94, #107, #131, #145 and #156 - were also printed on the more-plentiful #166-220 sheet. A print-quantity designation, not an error or a separate card.
