About Dolph Schayes

Adolph "Dolph" Schayes starred at New York University under Hall of Fame coach Howard Cann and was a first-round pick, fourth overall, in the 1948 BAA Draft, though he signed with the Syracuse Nationals. The 6-foot-8 forward-center played 15 NBA seasons (1949–64) with the Nationals and their successor, the Philadelphia 76ers. One of the league's most durable stars, Schayes was a 12-time NBA All-Star and 12-time All-NBA selection who led Syracuse to the 1955 NBA championship and paced the league in rebounding in 1951. When he retired in 1964 he was the NBA's all-time leading scorer with 19,249 points and had appeared in more games than any player before him. Schayes was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1973. On this 1961-62 Fleer card he is a veteran superstar and iron-man scorer nearing the end of a record-setting career.
