About this card

About Oscar Robertson

Oscar Robertson, a 6-foot-5 guard, rewrote the record books at the University of Cincinnati before the hometown Cincinnati Royals landed him as a territorial pick in 1960. He was named 1960-61 Rookie of the Year, then authored one of basketball's landmark achievements: in 1961-62 he became the first player to average a triple-double over a full season, posting 30.8 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 11.4 assists per game. Robertson won the 1964 MVP award, made 12 All-Star teams, led the NBA in assists six times, and captured a championship with the Milwaukee Bucks in 1971. He retired with 26,710 points and 9,887 assists (career averages of 25.7 points, 9.5 assists, and 7.5 rebounds) and was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1980. A grail of the set, this rookie card documents the very season the triple-double pioneer first averaged one — a feat that would go unmatched for 55 years.
