About this card
Cards #306-313 tell the 1960 World Series game by game - the Pirates over the Yankees on Bill Mazeroski's Game 7 home run - and close with the Pirates celebrating.
The story on this card
The last card in the 1961 Topps World Series run, #313 closes the 1960 Fall Classic with two grinning Pirates in the winners' clubhouse. Pittsburgh had waited since 1925. New York outscored the Bucs 55-27 over seven games and won three blowouts, but Pittsburgh took four close ones, and Game 7 on October 13 swung twice late: Hal Smith's three-run homer put the Pirates up 9-7 in the eighth, the Yankees tied it in the ninth, then Bill Mazeroski led off the bottom half and drove Ralph Terry's second pitch over the left-center-field wall for a 10-9 win, the first home run ever to end a World Series. The back stacks every Series batting and pitching line.
