The story on this card

Card 48 opens the 1961 Topps League Leaders subset with the American League's 1960 win leaders, a board where nobody reached 20. Cleveland's Jim Perry (18-10) and Baltimore rookie Chuck Estrada (18-11) tied for the lead, Perry piling his up for a 76-78 fourth-place club. Kansas City's Bud Daley was third at 16-16 for a last-place team that lost 96 games. Three more finished at 15: Art Ditmar (15-9) led the pennant-winning Yankees, ahead of Whitey Ford's 12; Detroit's Frank Lary, an All-Star that summer, went 15-15; and Estrada's Baltimore teammate Milt Pappas went 15-11.

Chuck Estrada was a hard-throwing Baltimore right-hander who tied for the American League lead with 18 wins as a 1960 rookie and was an All-Star twice that summer, before elbow surgery in 1963 cut his career short. Jim Perry, older brother of Hall of Famer Gaylord Perry, pitched 17 big-league seasons for Cleveland, Minnesota, Detroit, and Oakland, winning 215 games. A swingman for years, he broke through as a full-time starter and won the 1970 AL Cy Young Award. A left-handed knuckleballer with a right arm he could not straighten, Daley won 16 games in each of his two All-Star seasons at Kansas City, then took the win in the Yankees' clinching Game Five of the 1961 World Series. Art Ditmar - a finesse right-hander whose sinker carried him from a major-league-worst 22 losses in Kansas City to five seasons with the Yankees, where he shuttled between bullpen and rotation and won 47 games. Frank Lary - Detroit right-hander they called the Yankee Killer, 27-10 against New York from 1955 through 1961. Three-time All-Star, 1961 Gold Glove winner, and a 23-9 ace for the 101-win Tigers that same summer. Milt Pappas - a Detroit-born control pitcher who reached Baltimore at 18, anchored the Orioles' Kiddie Korps rotation, started the 1965 All-Star Game, and was then traded to Cincinnati for Frank Robinson in one of baseball's most famous deals.
