The story on this card
Card #249 in the 1961 Topps set is the Cincinnati Reds team card, issued in the third print series. The card looks back on the 1960 season, when Cincinnati finished sixth in the National League at 67-87, 28 games behind the World Series champion Pittsburgh Pirates, and drew 664,486 to Crosley Field, last in the eight-team league. Fred Hutchinson managed; Vada Pinson piled up 187 hits and Bob Purkey won 17. On June 15 the Reds sent Tony Gonzalez and Lee Walls to Philadelphia for Wally Post and Harry Anderson. Frank Robinson, the lone Hall of Famer on the roster, hit .297 with 31 homers. Under new general manager Bill DeWitt, that sixth-place club was one year from a pennant.
