About this card
Cards #401-410 are the Baseball Thrills subset: ten event cards recalling famous feats, from Babe Ruth's 60th home run to Harvey Haddix's twelve perfect innings.
The story on this card
Card 410, a Baseball Thrills entry, recalls May 26, 1959, when Pittsburgh left-hander Harvey Haddix retired the first 36 Milwaukee Braves he faced at County Stadium: 12 perfect innings, farther than anyone had gone before. Lew Burdette answered with a shutout, scattering 12 hits, so Haddix kept going. In the 13th a throwing error by third baseman Don Hoak put Felix Mantilla on; a sacrifice and an intentional walk to Hank Aaron followed, and Joe Adcock's drive past the right-center fence was cut to a double by a baserunning mixup. Pittsburgh lost 1-0. A 1991 rule change struck the game from the no-hit list, but his 36 straight outs in one game remain a record. It is from Topps' fifth series.
