The story on this card

Card 54 in the 1962 Topps set is a League Leaders card recapping the 1961 National League home run race, and it names three men: Orlando Cepeda, Willie Mays and Frank Robinson. Cepeda led the league with 46 for the San Francisco Giants, and led in RBI with 142. Mays, his teammate in center field, hit 40, making 1961 the only season in Giants franchise history with two 40-homer men. Frank Robinson finished third at 37 for the pennant-winning Cincinnati Reds, part of a .323 year with 124 RBI and 117 runs that made him the National League's Most Valuable Player. Joe Adcock's 35 for Milwaukee was the nearest total outside the trio. The card sits in print series 1.

Orlando Cepeda, the Baby Bull, was a powerful Puerto Rican first baseman who won Rookie of the Year with the 1958 Giants and the unanimous NL MVP with the 1967 champion Cardinals. Willie Mays was the Say Hey Kid, the five-tool center fielder of the New York and San Francisco Giants: Rookie of the Year in 1951, Most Valuable Player in 1954 and 1965, twelve straight Gold Gloves, 660 home runs, Hall of Fame in 1979. Frank Robinson - Cincinnati's 1961 National League MVP, then Baltimore's 1966 American League Triple Crown winner, MVP and World Series MVP after one of baseball's most lopsided trades; nicknamed "the Judge," he later became the majors' first Black manager.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
