1962 Topps #277 Checklist 265-352

About this card
The seven checklist cards (#22, 98, 192, 277, 367, 441, 516) list the set in 88-card blocks - 1-88, 89-176, 177-264, 265-352, 353-429, 430-506, 507-598 - that lag the real print series, which is why the high numbers are sometimes wrongly said to start at #507. Four of them exist in more than one state: #22 with a correct or an error back, #192 with and without a comma (and tinted), #441 in large or small print and #516 with white or yellow boxes.
The story on this card
Card 277 is a third-series checklist, and Topps ran it on two print sheets - its own and the one that followed - which is how a series-three card comes to list numbers that run well beyond it. The 88 it covers open at 265 with Joe Adcock and close at 352 with Frank Sullivan. What it covers is a strong run: Willie Mays at 300, Hank Aaron at 320, and the nine-card In Action subset, 311 through 319. Unmarked copies, every box still empty, are the ones collectors chase.
Graded population (PSA & SGC)
| Grader | Total | 10 | 9 | 8 | 7 | 6 | 5 | 1-4 | Auth |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| PSA | 332 | 0 | 8 | 143 | 101 | 49 | 12 | 17 | 2 |
| SGC | 21 | 0 | 1 | 2 | 10 | 1 | 5 | 2 | 0 |
Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
