About Johnny Weekly

Topps put him at #204 in the third series, and it is his rookie card. He debuted April 13, 1962 with a ninth-inning pinch-hit groundout at Connie Mack Stadium, the fourth game the Colt .45s played. Six days later at Wrigley, on for the ejected Roman Mejias, he homered off Don Cardwell for his first big-league hit. A second homer off Pete Richert followed May 7, and by mid-May Houston returned him to the Giants' chain, five outfield starts and 13 games in.

John Weekly was a right-handed-hitting outfielder, six feet and 200 pounds, born June 14, 1937 in Waterproof, Louisiana, and a graduate of high school in Pittsburg, California, out on San Francisco Bay. He entered the New York Giants' organization in 1956 and spent six seasons in that chain without a call-up, even after the franchise moved into his own corner of California in 1958. Expansion Houston finally sprang him, taking him from the San Francisco Giants in the Rule 5 draft on November 27, 1961, and he reached the majors with the Colt .45s the following April. Across parts of three seasons, all of them with Houston, he played 53 games and batted .207 with 25 hits, five home runs and 19 runs batted in. He was a corner outfielder only: 19 games in left field, 17 in right, never one in center. Triple-A Oklahoma City was his real address through those years, and 1965 was his last season on the field; Houston traded him to the Mets for Gary Kroll the following January. Weekly died November 24, 1974 at 37, of injuries from a road accident in Walnut Creek, California, and is buried at Oak View Cemetery in Antioch.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
