The story on this card
This team card looks back at the 1961 Yankees, who went 109-53 under first-year manager Ralph Houk, finished eight games ahead of Detroit and won their 26th American League pennant before beating the Cincinnati Reds in five World Series games. The league expanded from eight clubs to ten that year and stretched the schedule to 162 games, the backdrop for the Maris-Mantle chase that ended with Maris hitting his 61st on the final day to pass Babe Ruth. That club hit a then-record 240 home runs and won 65 games at Yankee Stadium, a total that still stands. Yogi Berra, Whitey Ford and Mickey Mantle all reached Cooperstown, and Ford took World Series MVP honors. Card #251 belongs to Topps' third series.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
