1962 Topps #206 Washington Senators Team

About this card
This is one of the eighteen team cards in the set. Neither 1962 expansion club, the New York Mets or the Houston Colt .45s, has one.
The story on this card
The card reports Washington's 1961 debut, an expansion club stocked in baseball's first expansion draft after the original Senators became the Minnesota Twins. Mickey Vernon, twice an American League batting champion in Washington, was the franchise's first manager; his 61-100 team tied Kansas City for last in the ten-team league, 47 1/2 games behind the champion Yankees. Dick Donovan was the bright spot, leading the league with a 2.40 earned run average and making the All-Star team; shortstop Ed Brinkman, 19, and left-hander Claude Osteen broke in. Only 597,287 fans came, fewest in the league, in the club's lone year at Griffith Stadium before D.C. Stadium opened; John F. Kennedy threw out the first ball at the last Presidential Opener there. Card 206 is print series 3.

Graded population — a scarcity guide, not a price. Snapshot 2026-09-24. Half-grades fold down (8.5→8), and PSA's qualified grades are counted separately from the straight-grade rows shown here. Slabs of the three cards printed #139 are joined by description, never by number alone. PSA registers the green tints as a separate set; a tint's population is listed under that state of the card it belongs to.
