About this card

The seven checklist cards (#79, 102, 191, 274, 362, 431, 509) print their own seven blocks - 1-88, 89-176, 177-264, 265-352, 353-429, 430-506 and 507-576 - which do not match the seven print series the cards were actually issued in. Three of them (#102, #431, #509) exist in two catalogued print states.

The story on this card

Card 431 is the sixth series checklist for 1963 Topps, covering card numbers 430 through 506, the stretch that opens with Norm Siebern and closes with Gene Green. Like the other checklist cards scattered through the year, it was printed to help collectors track which cards from that series they still needed. Two collectible states exist: one prints the upper front in red with white lettering reading Checklist, the other in orange with black lettering, though both list the identical run of numbers underneath. Checklists from this era are a common source of condition trouble, since collectors often checked off numbers in pencil or pen as they pulled cards, so unmarked examples are scarcer than the surviving population suggests.

Print variations

Two states of #431 are tracked individually: 431a - Checklist in black and 431b - Checklist in white. The difference is on the front of the card (checklist color).

States catalogued by the PSA master set registry and the Trading Card Database; each is tracked here individually.

Where a grader registers a variation separately its population is listed under that variation; slabs whose label names no variation are listed as not designated.
