The story on this card
Card 234 is the Chicago White Sox team card from Topps' third series, honoring a 1964 club that finished 98-64, one game behind the pennant-winning Yankees after going just 6-12 against New York. Manager Al Lopez's pitching staff led the league in shutouts and allowed the fewest hits in the majors. Gary Peters went 20-8 with a 2.50 ERA, Juan Pizarro added 19 wins, and Hoyt Wilhelm anchored the bullpen with 27 saves and a 1.99 ERA. Floyd Robinson hit .301 to lead the offense, Pete Ward supplied 23 home runs, and Ron Hansen turned in a career-best .261 at shortstop. Minnie Minoso, a fan favorite from the 1950s, returned for a brief 30-game stint before his release in July. The card front presents the club in a single team photo.
