The story on this card
This 1965 Topps team card reports on the Cleveland Indians coming off a 1964 season that ended in a sixth-place tie at 79-83, twenty games behind the pennant-winning Yankees. George Strickland ran the club as acting manager into July while Birdie Tebbetts recovered from an offseason heart attack before returning to the dugout. Shortstop Dick Howser played all 162 games, left fielder Leon Wagner supplied 31 home runs and 100 RBIs, and center fielder Vic Davalillo won a Gold Glove. Rookie first baseman Bob Chance added 14 homers and 75 RBIs, while Jack Kralick led the pitching staff in wins and Sam McDowell in ERA, with Don McMahon closing games from the bullpen. Cleveland went 3-15-1 against the Yankees. Printed in the set's sixth series, the card presents a posed team photo.
