The story on this card
Card 173 in the 1965 Topps set is the Detroit Tigers team card, part of the set's second series. It reports the club's 1964 season, an 85-77 finish for fourth place in the American League, 14 games behind the pennant-winning Yankees under manager Chuck Dressen. The card front carries a team photo; Al Kaline, the club's longtime right fielder, was the 1964 roster's one future Hall of Famer. Bill Freehan hit .300 with 18 homers behind the plate, Kaline batted .293 with 17 home runs, and the pitching staff was paced by Dave Wickersham's 19 wins and Mickey Lolich's 18. The Tigers played at Tiger Stadium.
