About this card

Nineteen of the twenty clubs have a team card in the 1965 Topps set, each reporting the 1964 season. Houston, renamed from the Colt .45s to the Astros in December 1964, has none; #426 Milwaukee Braves is the franchise's last Milwaukee team card.

The story on this card

Card 151 in the 1965 Topps set is the team card for the Kansas City Athletics, part of print series two - not a high number and not a semi-high either. It reports a hard 1964 season: the club finished tenth and last in the American League at 57-105-1, 42 games behind the pennant-winning Yankees. Owner Charlie Finley fired manager Ed Lopat in June, with the team sitting at 17-35, and promoted coach Mel McGaha, who went 40-70-1 the rest of the way. The back's 1964 leader lines credit Rocky Colavito with 34 home runs and 102 RBIs and Wayne Causey with a .281 average.
