About this card

Nineteen of the twenty clubs have a team card in the 1965 Topps set, each reporting the 1964 season. Houston, renamed from the Colt .45s to the Astros in December 1964, has none; #426 Milwaukee Braves is the franchise's last Milwaukee team card.

The story on this card

This team card reports the Mets' 1964 season, their first at brand-new Shea Stadium and the third of Hall of Famer Casey Stengel's four seasons managing the club. New York finished last in the National League at 53-109, but the year was defined by the new ballpark and the crowds it drew rather than the standings. Card 551 is a high number from the seventh and final series (507-598), the print run that closes out the 1965 Topps set, and it sits inside the short-print zone of numbers 523-598. Like the other team cards in the set, it presents a single posed photograph of the Mets club, with the team pennant and the 10th-place National League finish printed beneath it.
