The story on this card
Card 57 in the 1965 Topps set is a team card for the St. Louis Cardinals, part of print series 1. The card reports the club's 1964 campaign, when the Cardinals stormed past the Phillies down the stretch to win the National League pennant and beat the New York Yankees in seven games for the franchise's seventh World Series title. Bob Gibson won Series MVP honors, going 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA and 31 strikeouts, closing out Game 7 on two days' rest after a 10-inning complete game in Game 5. Lou Brock homered off Al Downing in the fifth inning of Game 7. General manager Bing Devine had already been fired that August; after the season manager Johnny Keane left for the Yankees, and Red Schoendienst took over as skipper.
