About this card
Nineteen team cards cover twenty clubs - Houston has none. Three of them, #303 Indians, #326 Braves and #404 Pirates, were printed with and without a dot between the standings line and the league name in the band at the foot of the front, and both states are tracked here.
The story on this card
This team card reports on the 1965 San Francisco Giants, who finished second in the National League at 95-67 under manager Herman Franks, two games behind the champion Los Angeles Dodgers. The season turned on August 22, when Juan Marichal struck Dodgers catcher John Roseboro with his bat during a bench-clearing brawl; the resulting nine-day suspension cost Marichal two pitching turns down the stretch, and the Giants finished those same two games short of the pennant. The club's roster carried six future Hall of Famers: Orlando Cepeda, Marichal, Willie Mays, Willie McCovey, Gaylord Perry and Warren Spahn. Candlestick Park was the club's home all season. Card #19 belongs to print series one of the 1966 Topps set.
